I have a Dell Dimension 4500 that I just wiped clean and installed WinXP Pro
SP3. On cold boot ups I keep getting Managed PC Boot Agent. When I reset the
boot order in the BIOS it boots to the HD only when I restart it W/O shutting
it down completely . It doesn't save the new settings after being shutdown
and then powered up again. - - When I do go to change the boot order, the
[Removeable Device] is ALWAYS the 1st boot option and the [MBA UNDI] is
always the 4th. [CDROM] is always 2nd and the HD is always 3rd. So even
though (MBA) is 4th, it still goes to that option after cold boots.

Does anyone out there know how to correct this VeRy AnnoYing ProBLeM?? (W/O
wiping the HD clean aGaiN. (Even though I doubt if that would help)

MBA is a network application created by 3Comm (which no longer exists).
It was probably installed if your computer has a 3Com network card.

Mr. Grey.. You made my lightbulb come on, thank u. I replaced the 3Comm NIC
w/a Netgear and then it gave me... "Reboot and select proper boot device, or
insert boot media in selected boot device and press any key" - Which tells me
that NOW it's looking for it but can't find it. I then changed the boot order
again, shut it down, and it still looked for it 1st. At this point I came to
the conclusion that for whatever reason this machine would just prefer
booting from there rather than the hard drive. So then I moved the jumper
from Master to Cable Select. Now it goes right into the OS with no
hesitation. >>Uh... Call me ConFuSeD!!!<< I definitely appreciate the reply,
you kicked me in the right direction. Thanx Again Leonard. Wayne B.

Dell has in their knowledge base step by step directions for
reinstalling the software that came with your 4500. I would suggest you
print those instructions should you need them in future.

Appreciate the info. I just scanned thru the "Preparing for a Clean
Installation" and it had me to reevaluate a couple of things that I'm in the
habit of doing when I do a clean install.

With humble thanks to you all!

I just finished reinstalling XP, my favorite [ and I have tried them ALL!], and I got a system halted error messg. I immediately rebooted, and went F2 on it.
I was confronted with MBA also. It was driving me nuts. More like a short walk actually.
I googled for an answer, and it brought me to youse guys.
I did the jumper trick [ no Cable select option, so I did 'Master/Slave present], and voila'!
All is well.
