Issues with searching

Hi,

I have XP professional on this PC and each time I try to do a search for,
say a misplaced file, I get the dial-up connection dialog box coming up.

Could someone please tell me if it is possible to stop this from happening?

....
Yeah, there is; simply stop using a non-standard sig
and save the bits.

Dg,
Some spywares plant a file called 'explorer.exe' according to some
newsgroups I've read.
Maybe that dial-up is a symptom you are experiencing?
I'd recommend getting 'Ad Aware6', 'Spybot', 'CW Shredder' and 'Hi Jack
This' , all available free from:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php?cat=sp#det
and see if that stops it.
hope this helps,
