Issues following Windows 2000 Update Rollup

Hi All,

I had problem with all of the print queues following the installation of
Windows 2000 Update Rollup 1 for Service Pack 4. When users tried to print
to various printer device, they get error msg window saying "Failed to print
.....". Also, the print spooler was keep crashing. After uninstalling
Windows 2000 Update Rollup 1 for Service Pack 4 from one of my server ,
everything came back up normal.
Any comments or resolution to this issue other than uninstallation is
welcome since I had several other servers with the same issues.

Hi Shabu,
Go to hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\print. Backup the
pstsp1 key to a safe location by exporting the key. Now, delete the key and
see if it helps. You need to perform this step after installing the rollup
package.

I couldn't find the pstsp1 key under
hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\print. Do you mean this
key will appear only if you reinstall the rollup package and if so, I looked
over on another server with rollup pakage installed and I couldn't find that
key over there either.
Could you please help me!

Hi,
Stop the spooler service. Go to your printer's properties and advanced and
check your printer properties. Set all of them for winprint raw. Go to
hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\print\environments\windows
nt x86\print processors. Backup the whole key and then delete all the print
processors except winprint. Check the dll for every print processor and
rename all of them too(except for winprint). Restart the spooler service. You
might require a reboot.

We are experiencing the same problems here with the Windows 2000 SP4 Update
Rollup 1 and printing services. We installed MS05-035, MS05-036, and the
Update Rollup 1 to our only Win2K print server. Upon reboot we could not
print to network printers on the server from workstation nor directly from
the console. Rebooted one more time just in case. Still cannot print to any
network printer on that server. Can browse the printer list and successfully
install new printers on workstation, but cannot print from any application
nor print a test page. Uninstalled the Update Rollup 1 and restarted, still
experiencing problems.

I could not find the key listed below by "lukesh" either.

Any other suggestions?
