Issue when using Exchange and POP3

I have a client that is using Outlook 98 and 2000 on several systems. They
have an exchange server that is hosting their internal email. Their ISP is
hosting their Internet email. Outlook is configured to connect to both the
exchange server and POP3 email accounts. In the delivery tab, the POP3
account is set at the top of the list. The issue is when a user sends an
email to an internet email address, the message isn't sent. The message
goes to the Outbox and then appears in the Sent Items folder but is never
sent. I have set up diagnostic logging and the smtplog is blank when a
message is sent. Now if I remove exchange from the outlook profile leaving
POP3 by itself, the messages get delivered. Any insight would be helpful.

I'm not an Exchange expert, but since no one else has replied to you yet, I
will tell you that having Exchange and POP accounts in the same profile is
unsupported in Outlook 2000 and earlier. For best results, create separate
profiles for Exchange and Internet mail.
