isp connection

Hi
I'm having a problem with my mums pc she cant connect to her isp through
broadband or dial up. we suspect a virus as we have checked anything else
but she still can't connect.
she gets an error similar to an active firewall but she runs me and dosn't
have any firewall software on her machine
when using dial up the pc dials but disconnects as soon as the call is
answered do you know of any virus's that mught cause this and how to get rid
(we can't update her virus check as she has no internet)

Check to see if you have any others diallers installed. Control
Panel/Network Connections. Sometimes unwanted diallers install themselves
and disconnect your own ISP in their favour. If they are doing this you may
be running up a hefty phone bill unknowingly.
