Is this an XP Problem or a hardware problem???

I finished putting together a new Celeron system (2.4ghz
Celeron, 512MB DDR-PC2100, Soyo motherboard, etc.) and
loaded Windows XP Pro (with service pack 1a). The
software formatted the hard drive and appeared to load
okay. Windows opened and I was able to run the programs
that were installed with the XP disc. After installation
was complete I tried to load the software drivers for the
motherboard, hard drive, etc. but each time I would get a
message that install.exe (or whatever program was trying
to be run) could not be completed and had to be shut
down, it was then followed by the usual request to send
the error report to Microsoft. Since I could not get the
installation to work I was worried that the problem might
be with the hard drive. I tried to copy some executable
files from CD to the hard drive and it gave me an error
with my input/output device (I was able to scan/copy a
photo CD into the my pictures folder).

I've since checked the hard drive in my P4 system and
know it is okay. Is the problem I'm observing an XP Pro
software issue or could it be related the the memory or
other hardware on the new system? Any advice is welcome.

Have you tried to download a newer version from the motherboard
manufacturer's web site? It could be that your motherboard CD is bad.

The CD is fine. I tried the motherboard CD, the Western
Digital CD, and the CDs from the CD burner and they all
open and begin their installation on my other computer
that is also using XP Pro. When I put the same CDs in
the new computer I get the problem everytime. My first
suspect was the CD burner but if it was the burner then I
should have encountered problems installing XP Pro
(didn't). I've also done a complete reinstall of XP Pro
but still see the same problems.
