Is this a virus?

Using Win 2000 (sp4)

all of a sudden I seem to have a blank web page actual embedded in my
desktop - it takes up about 80% of the screen forcing all my desktop icons
to the left!

I have absolutely no idea how this has happened or how to get rid of it - is
this some sort of virus or what?

any ideas?

bizarrely I've just noticed if I change my default page in IE 5.5 (sp2) this
embedded web page changes also - spooky!

Right-click on a blank area on the desktop (that isn't in the web page)
and roll the cursor to Active Desktop and uncheck "Show Web Content".
