Hi John

Yes, it is a Scam. Microsoft *never* distributes Patches or Security Updates
via Email. This here is the latest scam which wants users to download and
install the attachment which is in fact a Virus. More Info on that new Scam
and the attached Virus can be found here:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio

I've been getting the same emails for the past 2 days.
Now I'm getting about one every 10 minutes. "From" name
and "Subject" are all slightly different as is the name of
the .exe attached. I've tried contacting my ISP, Cert and
some others. I'm also getting an email every 10 minutes
with an attached .exe) claiming some email couldn't be
sent. It's not mail I sent and the address appears to be
made up. It looks like some kind of attack to me. Does
anyone know how to get this info to MS? Do they monitor
this newsgroup?

I remember seeing something about such a hoax on
www.nai.com. Microsoft NEVER sends out any kind of
updates via email. They should be deleted without opening
attachments ASAP. And be sure to tell your friends and
family to watch out for this too.
