Is this a balanced system

Simon-Pierre

Hi all
Im going to be building a a new system for the start of college, and its not
just going to be used for ms word, ill have plenty of time on the weekends
to play the hottest games. Since im a student and all, i have a limitited
budget so ive done alot of research, and ive found that the following is
exactly what i want for parts, and features.its actually a pretty awsome
machine but future proofed since i dont upgrade or buy a new pc untill 3
years or so. The one question is, is the radeon 9600 pro too much for my
system?, since its the most expensive part of the computer. In your opinion
is the system balanced or unbalanced with the 9600 pro card. is the
videocard usually the most expensive in a medium end system. I personally
think that for the same money a better 3d card and worse cpu has a better
performance then vice versa, but im not sure and would like some feedback

Although it's ridiculously quiet (which is a good thing), you'll also find
that case can sometimes get nice and toasty. I did have one and my computer
room's in a fairly warm environment, and after about an hour or so of gaming
on something nice and intensive like Delta Force: Black Hawk down on my
system, the video card sometimes got a bit warm and crashed the system.

I ended up replacing the Sonata with a Coolermaster ATCS-201 SX2 which has
bloody good airflow through the case, and although it's a bit noisier than
the Sonata, the machine hasn't crashed during a mega gaming session.

Your mileage may vary though.

As a matter of curiosity, did you have both fans in the Sonata, and did
you try replacing them with models that offer higher airflow?

I was referring to the replier. They, apparently, were giving dollars in
USD. OP is Canadian and gave prices in CD (hence the USA person's dismay at
the amount)... Which is why I asked the question. Apparently, they didn't
read the 'Canadian Pricing' part.

Draw your own conclusions.

Yes and yes.

Put a couple of 4600rpm fans in to replace the stock ones and although it
decreased case temps by 2-4 degrees C, it didn't help much with the airflow
through the case at all and the video card still warmed the room up! Didn't
see the point of making a quiet case louder so I sold it to someone who
could use it, gave up on the "quiet" idea and got the Coolermaster instead.

The Sonata's a great case - if you're in a suitable environment....

Alright i just said the weekends because i would be studing during the week,
, it wouldnt be all weekend, lol alright enough with that, um ya concerning
the sonata im defenelty gettinng it since im living in one room, it must be
as quiet as possible. The price for the 9600 pro is for the ati version
(inCND funds) and its the cheapest i cand find, the sapphire should a be a
bit less but i dont know the exact price. How much more would the 9700 (non
pro) cost. give it to me in us$ or cnd just state which it is.

- Get a radeon 9700 np, your cpu can hang with a faster gfx card than 9600.
- Get 2x512 ddr400 modules, you will need 1 gig ram sooner than you think.

Have you considered the Abit NF7. www.ncix.com has it for 139

Geil 256Mb DDR PC3200 [400] $ 149.76
Antec Sonata [380W] Piano Black Quiet Mid Tower $ 172.89
Samsung 763MB 17in .20dp(H)1280x1024@65H*Black* $ 266.55

DVD-Rom Liteon 16X DVD *Black* $ 51.07

If you opt out of the black stuff you'll likely save enough to get another
matching stick of memory. I'ld get an $7 can of primer and a couple of
cans of black spray paint and color it black myself if looks were a
concern. Not only will you save money but it'll all be the same tone of
black.

ya i did actually think about the spray paint, but when it comes to the
monitorm id rather have it done already and perfect, the different tones of
black wont bother me, i just dont want a white dvd rom with my black sonata.
and also i am getting 2 sticks of 256 3200 memory, of 754 each. ya thanks
everyone for yuor suggestions and opinions, and write some more if u can, no
such thing as to much feedback
