Is there internet disconnection during Standby?

When I put my PC to Standby mode, and have mirc and live messenger running,
will their internet connection be cut off during Standby? I was hoping I
could put the PC to Standby and have those programs still connected online.

I assume so. My copy of Vista seems to update when in sleep mode, irrating
me to no end, since the computer is in the bedroom, and the bright light
from
the monitor when it wakes up, wakes me up.

Haha thanks for the reply Larry. Good to know internet connection is still
maintained in Standby mode.
 
I wouldn't be so quick to assume yet that the internet connection stays on
during "Sleep Mode"

I say this because one can always have the updates start at a certain time
through the task manager. Windows continues to go by what the task manager
says even while in sleep mode.

So if Task Manager says perform updates at 1am every morning, your computer
will wake up at that time to perform the updates.

My logic tells me that if Windows maintained the ineternet connection while
in sleep mode, why would it need to wake up to do the updates?

There is a quick test you can do however if you have 2 computers. Log into
IRC on both computers and join the same room. Put one of the computers to
sleep and see if that computer gets booted from IRC. You should wait about
10 Min from the time the computer went to sleep though considering sometimes
it takes IRC some time to register that a PC abruptly disconnected from the
IRC Server.

Either that or put one PC to sleep and try and ping that PC from the 2nd PC.
 
windows is waking on schedule to update. connection is not Maintained
during sleep. Closest you could get to what you want would be to set your
monitor to shut off, but leave your computer running.
 
The internet connection is NOT maintained. Devices are placed into standby
as well. Vista will, however, wakeup to perform an update or other
scheduled task.
