Hello,

A few days ago after a masive power surge I had to rebuild my PC.
Fortunatly as were always told to do I had all my data backed up, at least
so I thought.
Incredably while I had backed up my emails I had forgotten to do the same
for my favorities in IE and I had so much in there, I could so kick myself.

Try as I might along with Microsoft Tech' we tried to revert the hard drive
to as it was before the surge but was unable to do so altho' the hard drive
escaped any damage, it had to be a complete reformat.

My question is, is there anyway I can retreive the old favorite list from
the hard drive even tho' it has been formated, could it be lying anywhere in
some form in the depths of the hard drive?

Highly unlikely. It would require the use of an "unformatting"
utility and even that would only be successful if the critical file
information, including the directory entries, has not already been
overwritten when you reinstalled.

Good luck

Hi,

In another newsgroup Pegasus (MVP) had the following advice for a
somewhat similar situation.

=======================================

If you cannot find them then one of the following links may
have tools to retrieve them:

http://www.restorer2000.com/r2k.htm
http://www.hddrecovery.com.au
http://bootmaster.filerecovery.biz
http://www.runtime.org/ (GetDataBack)
http://www.runtime.org/ (has a trial version)
http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/filerecoverysecdownload.html

Your big mistake was not so much to delete your account
but to choose not to backup your important files to an
independent medium at regular intervals, e.g. weekly. A 2.5"
hard disk in an external USB case is a low-cost and highly
effective backup medium.
