Is there any way to uninstall SP2 or SP3

I have FAT32, so you're telling me that there is no way to figure out what is
causing my defragment issue and fix it?

Defrag will not free up disk space.

What the OP found installed are .net framework items which have nothing to
do with XP SP2 or XP SP3.

Based on other replies by the OP, it seems to me that the best course of
action is to perform a clean install of XP. This is a step that the OP may
not feel comfortable doing, and, if so, then the OP should seek professional
help.

I do have all the CD's, but I've been worried about doing
this only because my friend installed a Dynex Data/Fax/Voice motem and she
lost the installation disc to it.
There are some programs around (Driver Genius is one) that can take
backups of your drivers so they can easily be installed following a
re-install of your OS.
The current version isn't free, but there was an older version that was
given away free on a PCW magazine cover disk. The older version can no
longer retrieve new drivers from the web (you need the latest version
for that), but it will still do backup/restore of your existing drivers.
If you can get a copy it will save a lot of web searching for drivers.

Hi "lovelt19",

Most of the people that have replied have pointed out that you do not have
one "issue", but multiple issues with the used computer with mostly unknown
history of use. I agree with PA_Bear's recommendation to do a clean install,
and 2nd the idea that you should format NTFS, rather than FAT. As for the
defragment issue, you only said you can't defrag and had a problem
defragging, but I saw no description of how you were trying to defrag,
(graphical Disk Defragmenter, or command line "defrag", Normal mode or Safe
mode,) or how far you were getting, and whether or not there were any error
messages, and if so exactly what they might have said, including error
codes. You have more than the minimum 15% free space needed to completely
defrag the volume. The most likely reason defrag can't defrag is file
system corruption. But again, a fresh start, with a clean install, and the
other instructions given are your best option in the long run.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for your reply. I also agree with PA Bear about the clean install,
but I haven't done that for 2 reasons: First. I don't know enough about what
I'm doing and I can't take the chance on doing something that could result in
my computer not working at all. The woman who had this computer told me that
she installed a modem and ever since then, she had problems with gitting on
the internet and all I had to do is reinstall the modem's program and it
would work - what the modem was and what those problems were, I don't exactly
know. I only assumed that the modem she was talking about was the "Dynex"
Data/Fax/Voice Modem, because the box for this modem was in with the
acessories for the computer when she gave it to me. However when I went to
get the disc to reinstall, she had a game disc in the sleeve instead of the
installation disc. I now know I can get this installation off line, but was
still leary to do the clean install because I am able to use the internet
with basically no problems and I've since noticed something else that may be
interferring with my defragment.
I have Verison internet and their security package and I noticed that
this security package automatically preforms a defragment - once in the
several months that I've had this computer. The computer was left on over
night and when I checked it in the morning, I received notification from my
security system that a defragment was preformed, but when I tried to find a
report for this defragment, I could not find one, so I'm in the dark as to
what exactly was done. I'm also wondering if this is why my attempts to
defrag have not been working. When I try to defrag, I go to Acessories,
Tools, Defragment. I click "analyze". It will analyze up to 10%, but stays
there for hours until I finally give up and turn it off. I don't get any
error messages. Again, I don't know if my security program is the issue here
or if there are other factors causing this problem, but I would like to be
able to preform this defrag once in awhile.
As far as my system goes, I feel there could be problems with the way
programs were installed. Maybe she didn't turn certain programs off prior to
installing or maybe some of the programs are not compatiable with others.

She had Mircosoft Works Suite 2000,
then she installed Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (includes service pack
2), then she installed Microsoft Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003,
then she installed service pack 3.

This is when she said she started to have problems with the defragment,
but at this point I'm not sure if she is right. Now I'm questioning why you
say I should have NTFS rather than FAT. Could you explain this to me?

Thank you,
Kim
