Is there any reason to wait for SP2?

speaking of fixes, does anyone know if they've fixed the bit in security
centre with norton antivirus about its status being unknown, or will you
need an upgrade for norton or buy a later version or what ?

Why?

Why not? Do you want to be in the business of finding all of
Bill Gate's bugs and software/hardware incompatibilities or
let some other folks do that?

Yeah, I know all about the advertised security improvments.
But, M$ isn't exactly known for being particularly good at
either security *or* quality software.

What will it hurt to wait for a few weeks or a month and
monitor the various NGs discussion of pros and cons, then
decide for yourself what's best for you?

As for me, I have *no* desire to try a return to SP1 or
install new apps or fight with software or hardware vendors
for updates prematurely or otherwise risk what is a *very*
stable, very secure system on the if-come of a marketing
guru's attempt to convince me there's an improvement.

Reminds me of the old saw "Hi, I'm from the Government, and
I'm here to help you!"

Most compatibility issues will require updates from the device manufacturers
or application makers, all or most of whom were involved in the development
of SP2 throughout the beta process.

After reading all the saftey [recations you need to SP2 and the problems,
I'm
going to take my daughters advice and do what Panda recomends and download
the "stop SP2 download for up to 120 days "using Microsoft knowlege base
downlod that puts in regestry key so that you enable it later to download
from auto updates. Maybe after a month or so,bugs and incompatabily issues
will be resolved.Tahnks for your replies and help. Happyjackret

Vikas Ahuja [MSFT] ??:
Here's the schedule for Win XP SP2 release:
8/9 - Release to Microsoft Download Center (full network installation
package)

8/9 - Release to MSDN subscription site (CD ISO image)

8/10 - Release to Automatic Update (for machines running pre-release
versions of Windows XP SP2 only)

8/16 - Release to Software Update Services

8/18 - Release to Automatic Update for users running Windows XP Home
Edition
only

8/25 - Release to Automatic Update for all Windows XP users including
those
running Windows XP Professional Edition
8/25 - Release to Windows Update for interactive user installations

:

I only have one Win XP Home (SP1) machine, and on
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en
it says,
" DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A
smaller, more appropriate download will be available soon on Windows
Update...".

But, with all this talk, I don't want to wait for SP2. I can stand
giving up some disk space, but what does MS mean by "more appropriate"?

In other words, can I just install the SP2 MS provides for " IT
Professionals and Developers"?
If your computer is working fine, why sp2?
Why?....I heard the security would be enanced.

I downloaded and tried to install SP2. In short, I can't boot up from
that drive anymore. I'm working on the problem
Subject: SP2 Disaster for XP here; Not solved yet
(no Google link yet).

Despite my problem, that is too big an insult to lay on MS. MS is not
nearly as bad as the Gov. Believe me, I know.
