Is there a way to print a list of a folder's contents?

Is there a way to create a document that lists a folder's
contents? That is, I want to make a file that lists a
folder's contents so I don't have to type each (folder's)
file into the new file. Is that a command to make that
happen? Thanks.

The tree command works quite well also.
