Cher

I would like to have certain folders display differently in explorer
but they keep changing back when I change other folders.

Is there a way to lock certain folders so they won't change.

I view all in DETAIL mode. However, I want Control Panel and folders
on my desktop to view in Icon mode.

thanks

An alternate question - where does Windows remember the folder view
settings?

First download and install the fix to make xp "remember" more than 400
folders.

Then, in explorer, set your view as you like and go to: tools, folder
options, view tab, apply to all folders.

Then set your individual folders how you want and they all should stay.

Thanks, but I have already been there, done that.

The problem I am having is that the folders in the icon mode randomly
change back to the detail mode. Just happened again and I did not even
change any other folder settings.

I checked Kelly anyway and found that the folder # has been increased
to 8000. I only had 4000. Maybe that will help.

That fix usually does it. It's possible that you have more than 8000
folders, in which case the new version of tweakui for xp has a setting that
sets the remember value to anything you want.
Also make sure in explorer: tools, folder options, view tab, check: remember
each folders view settings.

So far so good.
I guess others had a problem with only 4000 also. I can't imagine how
the default of 400 would anybody any good.

thanks

Ya 4000 wasn't enough for me either. How ms thought 400 would be enough is
beyond me.
You're welcome.
