Is there a USB 2.0 driver update?

I have a four month old Sony VAIO PCG-GRZ660, shipped
with WindowsXP Home, and a previously assembled/used ADS
Technology Hi-Speed USB 2.0 HDD type casing with a 120GB
HDD [originally used with a different PC].
When plugging the device USB connector into any of the
Notebook's USB ports, the message comes up "HI-SPEED USB
Device plugged into non-HI-SPEED USB Hub". Is this a
hardware issue, or can I rectifiy the problem with a USB
driver update? What can I do (if anything) to at least
get the device to be "Seen" on my Notebook without having
to spend even MORE money on parts & add-ons?!? I don't
care about speed at this moment.

Check out your USB Hub. The newer ones support both USB 2.0 and 1.1. The
older ones will only support USB 1.1. The same, I believe is true of USB
cables. Check both out. If what I suspect is true, you will have to spend
more money.
If your computer does support USB 2.0, you should be able to plug into a USB
outlet directly on the back of the computer and see results.
