Is there a scanning utility built-in into Windows XP.

I have Windows XP that I just migrated to and am used to running Wang /
Kodak imaging software to scan photos. I do not see these on the
programs menu. Is there an equivalent in Windows XP?
Or perhaps Microsfot Paint will do it when I installer the scanner.

I will soon be buying Paint Shop Pro 9 but until then.

Thanks,
Patty

Windows does not include any built-in scanning software.

Provided you have the drivers installed for your scanner there are
some free graphics programs available that will work with scanners.

Try Irfanview from http://www.irfanview.com

Good luck

No. PSP requires a scanner and TWAIN driver (software that comes with the
scanner). So, if you can't scan now, you won't be able to with PSP.

Not to be argumentative, but Programs --> Accessories --> Scanners and
Camera Wizard offers to scan.

I haven't installed any third party drivers for my scanner.

I don't seem to have that, but I installed Office Pro 2003. Does
the latter erase the former?

Could you maybe check the shortcutr for Scanners and Camera Wizard
and tell me the name of the executable? I can search for it and see
if it's been removed, or just the Start Menu entry is gone.

Thanks!

So there IS built-in scanning software. Right?

There is the ability to access images and save them. There is nothing
with any editing or other image manipulating software, which are the
common characteristics associated with scanning software.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wiaacmgr.exe -SelectDevice

The shortcut only appears once Windows has detected your scanner or
camera.

Thanks for both the filename and the note. I haven't hooked up my
scanner yet, so that explains why I don't see the shortcut even
though I checked and the file is there.
