Is there a moderated Vista forum you recommend?

The subject line says it all. It used to be amusing to lurk this newsgroup,
but the noise killed the signal. Now the same trolls fight the same windmills
every day. I'm going to hang around and see how the dust settles, but I'm
looking to discuss Vista in a technical group.

I do realize that unfortunately, some of the posters here copy their
tiatribes verbatim to other forums. You'll see evidence of this in long
rambling responses that cover many topics except for the thread being
discussed (with the exception of the first line or two). I wish all that
anger and energy was directed to effect change instead of wearing out a
keyboard.

Are you familiar with the "twit" filters in your news reader?

They can be configured to block specific users so you never have to
see their drivel unless they change their email address. Works well on
the trolls and morons who just want to get attention and post useless
garbage.

But then what would the trolls have to live for?

There are hundreds if not thousands of them. Most of the beta oriented
ezines have them. By that term I mean sites like Neowin, Bink, Pro
Networks.

What I'd do is searches for terms like Vista forums as well as checking out
the sites above. Additionally, both MSDN and Technet have forums on many
many subtopics of Vista that would be to your liking.

Just do a search for MSDN forums, or Technet forums.

Hardware sites also have excellent software groups. Dell, HP, Sony would be
an examples

Your diatribe ironically is as misdirected as your venom for those
qualities you fault.

A good amount of change is probably effected that you may not be privy to.

No one forces you to read anything.

Good luck, and if you still have trouble finding forums, let us know and
I'll make you a list.

Good response! Unfortunately, not only am I using a browser to access this
group as a personal preference, the trusty kill file passes responses by "the
good guys" who are responding to the drivel. "Twit filter"... That kills me!

I'm not familiar with how that filter would work in your setup, but
normally only the post from the twit is filtered from view. All
responses from other people are still visible.

I don't know came up with that name, but it's a good one.

Hi,

A high signal to noise ratio is normal for a new product as everyone
plasters their opinion about everything. Like other OS groups, this one will
settle down as Vista progresses. Keep in mind that in monitored groups, all
posts are subjected to the scrutiny of the moderator. If he/she doesn't like
what you write (be it right, wrong, or just plain indifference), then it
doesn't get posted and you have no way to dispute it.

Agreed. I must be getting less tolerant as I get older. :) I remember the
same behavior with the XP newsgroups - complaints of no drivers, reportedly
slower, critical bugs not fixed, not ready for release, people trying to
solve world hunger, etc.

Occasionally I hear of rouge or loose cannon moderators, but the boards with
any credibility usually do a good job of self-policing the activities,
including those of the moderators. And when the checks and balances fail, I
remind myself that either: 1. I don't have a right to post and not have it
deleted; or 2. I have a right to post and the moderator has a right to delete
it for any reason including personal ones.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply.

Unfortunately for you Pnutss a search on your name reveals not one single
substantive on point post on how to use Windows, hardware, or software.
It's your own personal Twitt blog. As usual those who try to posture as
elite, discerning, sophisticated group users contribute nothing but
complaints--not one substantive question on Vista or one substantive answer
shows up in a PNUTTS View>Find. Why am I not surprised? That's par.

You can call names--Twitt. Mommy sent you outta the house and said "I"m not
goin' with you little Nutt go hit the bully by yourself" and after he
knocked you on your ass you dusted yourself off and said at least the little
Nutt tried.

But we even help Pnutt Twits on these groups who don't want to admit what
newbies they are.

You have to ask a question to get help little Nutt. When you do you'll get
an anwer.
Rick's post is correct as to settling down and focusing on issues--and in
the case of Vista it was foreplayed with huge fanfair and like a large
number of foreplays that were promised to be a big bang, it followed with an
awkward, erratic whimper, with a lot of impaired functionality and a large
number of people were surprised that it was so disappointing in so many
respects. Some major features don't work well, but it has a very decent
backup and you image anyway right?

You'll find out when you try to recover with Startup Repair.
