Hi J,

For anti-macrodefs at f-prot, go to http://www.f-prot.com/download/
and look under "Latest Virus Signature Files" for the download "for
Document/Office/Macro viruses".

Is there a decent FREE Antivirus software? - TKS - n/t

Hi,
Each and everyone has their favourite. I use AVG Free from
www.grisoft.com Have not used any of the others apart from Norton, so
cannot say from experience. I quote a very recent British Computer
magazine on 'freebies'.

"AVG Anti Virus is proof that freeware often performs just as well as
paid-for software. While it is just as effective as the leading
anti-virus packages from commercial organisatons such as Norton and
McAfee, it is however much more difficult to set up than any of its
commercial counterparts. If you're using the free version of AVG
AntiVirus, there's no technical support available, which will be a
major drawback for all but the most confident PC user. An anti-virus
package is only as good as its database of recognised viruses and AVG
AntiVirus regularly and automatically updates its virus database to
ensure you're protected against the latest threats, as and when they
appear."

End of sermon!

Personally I did not find it that hard to set up, I think that remark
overdoes the difficulty and is more than a little off-putting.

Well - in the case of virus scanners, the difference between a time
limited free version and a demo version may be essential:
In many cases, demos do not allow for the continuous updating of virus
definitions during the demo period! Such a demo is without any value.
Soooo...;-)

But Avast just calls it "Demo" mode until it's registered (for free,
as mentioned). The program works exactly the same before and after
registration, it's just that if you use it beyond 60 days without
entering the registration key, it won't download updates.

Perhaps you were referring to other demo programs.

Hi J,
Vistas of comical retorts open up before me but I am sorry I do not
have the time. There is a life to be led. My apologies if you have
cause to feel upset. As to who you are, I leave that with you to
figure out.
Kindest Regards,
Reg
