IS SP3 Really needed

if you installed automatic updates as the became available is SP3 necessary
to download?.

SP3 is more than just a rollup of previous updates. It also upgrades some
functionalities and adds a couple of new ones. These changes are not
included in any previous upgrade and will not be issued as separate patches.
See the release notes for the details.

SP3 supercedes SP2 so SP2 will go out of support two years from now. After
that time only SP3 users will continue to receive updates on WU.

Read the release notes and decide for yourself whether to upgrade now or
later.

If you want to get extended support until 2014 - yes. Future security
updates will require it to be installed.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

You might find that after you have 'fixed' it it is broke ;O)

I'm not upgrading yet - no need.
I'll wait to hear if it has any 'issues' first.

It has a new WPA and WGA that is more sensitive to changes in hardware,
like Vista.

That's the reason for my post.
From what I have read and post replies there seems to be issues during and
after installation. Have only one machine, hate to have it become inoperable
Thanks for all your replies.

It caused my doc scanning feature in office 03 to stop working months ago.
Until I get a firm answer that its been addressed by the latest xp-sp3 I'm
not ouching it

The best answer to that question is to ask: "Was SP2 really necessary?"

Perhaps not immediately but down the line you will need it if you want
new updates.

By that time I'll have an Apple if MS doesn't smarten up.
Sending out updates that screw up things more than they solve is
unforgiveable.

If it ain't broke don't fix it is one of the dumbest sayings ever concocted.
It came about because of someone who
didn't know what he was doing damaged the thing he was working on.
If it ain't broke, can you make it better??????

I'm sure you realize that Apple has done this as well as other major
software vendors.

They sure have. And Leopard needed what amounted to a service pack right
away (which Apple did within weeks).

Read the release notes to determine if anything changed by SP-3 is
something that you need or can actually use.

But that Apple will be running Windows.
