Is Something Wrong With My X1900GT???

I recently built a new Dual 2 Core system with a Sapphire X1900GT (catalyst
6.10). The OS is XP SP2.
Everything was great until I played an old 3D game (Prince of Persia Sands
of Time) for about 30 minutes today. After existing the game, I noticed that
desktop colors looked funny. Further tests confirmed nothing was wrong with
the monitor (Sony P234 wide screen) or the video cable. I played around the
catalyst control center and suddenly everything came back to normal (don't
know exactly what I did). Rebooted the PC and the same funny color
re-appeared. Uninstalled the catalyst 6.10 and reinstalled it and everything
has been fine so far.

I have never had this kind of problem before with any previous version of
the catalyst driver or any ATI cards.

Do you think something's wrong with my Sapphire X1900GT? This is the first
3rd party radeon card for me (always used ATI cards). Thanks.

Well you don't have to worry about the fact your card is a Sapphire. They
make cards for ATI. They're the largest 3rd party maker of ATI cards. I have
a Sapphire x1900XT and before that I had a Sapphire 9800pro. Both cards are
fantastic.
It sounds to me that it's the game that messed things up. If you haven't
had any problems up tell now, and then all of a sudden after you install an
older game you have this strange problem. It sure sounds like it's the game
that's to blame.
FYI do you now about XP's System Restore. It could have saved you a lot of
time and hassle if you would have just gone into System Restore and rolled
back to before you installed the game. I use it all the time, and it's saved
my butt many times.

I actually rolled back to before I installed the game and that was when I
panicked because the colors still looked funny. Because I finished building
this new PC 2 days ago, Prince of Persia was the 1st game I ever played on
the PC. So, I'll play some other games and see what happens.

OK. Well I hope that it was just the game, and now everything will be OK.
Have you tried installing 3DMark 06? That will give your new system a real
workout. I just built my new PC a couple of weeks ago, I have the E6600, is
this what you have? I'm wondering what type of Power Supply you're running.
You need a quality PS if your running a x1900. This could have something to
do with your problem. JLC

I downloaded 3DMark 06 and ran it. No problem after the torture test. I'm
running a Zalman 460W PSU. According to reviews that I've read, it is an
outstnading PSU and outperforms generic 550W+ PSUs. So, I hope it was just
the game...

Good to hear that things are going OK now. Your PS sounds like it's got
enough power. I went with a 550watt Antec True Power 2.0 just to on the safe
side. JLC
