hi all

i hv recently upgraded my comp. Here r the specifications:

Intel Pentium D 2.8 Ghz
1 GB Ram
Nvidia XFX GeForce 6200 256 MB AGP card
80 GB Harddisk

I just wanted to know, r all these specifications not enough to run
NFS CARBON AND NFS UNDERGROUND 2 at the maximum graphics settings???

Actually i hv the pirated versions of the 2 above mentioned games. Is
it related in anyway to not function in highest graphics??

However i the pirated versions of prey and serious sam 2. but both of
them run at quite high graphics settings. the y not the 2 above???

pls help

No, that graphics card is definitely a bottleneck. It's on of the lowest
performing nVidia 6xxx-series..

my nephew plays Need for speed on a PIII on a 32 meg GPU....something else is causing
your problems. having bootlegs is not a good thing. have you checked for the patches?

As usual JAD is spouting his ignorant opinion. I have six versions of
Need for Speed. Need for Speed Underground II is about the most
recent and requires much greater system resources.

I guess... JAD's fact is stranger than fiction, because it goes the

It's in the post you replied to, which quoted the original author.

"I just wanted to know, r all these specifications not enough to run

Difficult to believe JAD didn't know where that came from.

By the way, JAD, why did you stop wrapping your lines?

Your vid card is on the skimpy side. Truth to tell, you (IMHO) need
PCI-X (not AGP) to run the newest games.

Actually, if you check Newegg, there are a couple new offerings
from Nvidia, for AGP. The first two here, were discovered around
Mar.12,2007. These are examples of high end AGP cards, at the
$200+ level.

7950GT AGP

7900GS AGP

7800GS AGP (been out for a while)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143046

X1950Pro AGP (actually several flavors, been out for a while)

This article measures the effect that bandwidth has on performance
for a video card. PCI Express x16 is 4GB/sec bandwidth (and it
is bidirectional, but I cannot say how much difference that makes).
AGP 8X is 8*266MB/sec or 2133MB/sec unidirectional or so. So
PCI Express x8 is roughly the same as AGP8X. In the charts here
for games, there isn't that much of an effect - you still get most
of the video card, by using something with a bandwidth the same
as PCI Express x8.

(Reviewer puts cello tape on video card connector, to change bandwidth)

There are some charts for SpecViewPerf in the Tomshardware article,
but that is a benchmark that runs on XWindows. SpecViewPerf seems
to have a much stronger dependence. But the games reviewed by
Tomshardware are less affected.

So I don't think there is a reason to completely dismiss AGP.
It can still do the job.

This article compares X1950Pro AGP versus X1950Pro PCI Express, using
the same processor and two different motherboards. It is surprising how
little difference PCI Express makes, especially when the PCI Express in
this case is x16.

This is another comparison article, only this article is "apples versus
oranges". But if you look closely at the charts, there are still some
surprises in here.
