Is MS phasing out Windows Messenger?

MS has completely changed their Messenger website
(http://messenger.microsoft.com). Now there is no
mention of Windows Messenger at all. All old links and
are being re-diverted to MSN Messenger 6.

What's happening?

Actually http://messenger.microsoft.com is simply there for convenience,
http://messenger.msn.com is the actual site, and since it is "msn.com", it is for MSN
Messenger only.

Windows Messenger still remains, here:
http://g.msn.com/5meen_us/121?plcid=0409
and is it not being "phased out".
