Is modding over ???

I've noticed that there have not been too many new threads here lately... and I have to admit this was one of my favorite spots to post and read through. So the question is... is modding over? or have we already answered every imaginable question?
 
I dont think so..... But I do think the days of overclocking etc are doomed. With today's chips getting faster, and more efficient, (and a LOT cheaper) I don not see the need anymore. a few years back, when people could not afford a P4 2.8 they took 2.2 chips and nearly fried them to get them to run faster, (and that meant a load of "extra's" to keep the things cool)
In fact, in one case i know of, a chap actually ended up spending £50 MORE than he would have if he had somply gone out and bought the faster chip in the first place :D

But that's a one off ( I would hope) I am always reminded by that line from "Bladerunner"

"the light that burns twice as bright, lives half as long"

In the good old days overclocking was fun, made the pc faster and didn't heat up the house. Now it's no use doing it except in winter. Case mods are going the same way, they are all starting to look the same.

At school I used to love technology (I chose 'Resistant Materials' at GCSE - wood and metal work) - I would love to design and make my own case! I just haven't got the space or tools at the moment :(

:thumb: :thumb: :thumb: I do resistant materials!! :D atm for my final GCSE project i have to make a light hehe ! :p

anywyas ... i think overclocking will be around for ages! look at all the people who bench ...they buy equipment to overclock it! ...they will never settle for a stock system untill they can add 2000points to there end result!
 
overclocking isn't dead - that guy a couple of days ago wanted help with ocing his x2 4200 and reached 4800 speeds no problems!

whenever you can save £400 doing that, overclocking will ALWAYS be around
 
I think the original modding is over, people cutting up cases and putting windows in and spending £20+ on a CC and buying colourful fans, if nothing else it was somthing to do and spend time on, i remember even painting my pcs.

Now there is no point in doing all this, you can buy cases of all colours, lots of cases come with windows and lights and colourful fans now, the real enthusiasts dont do it any more, its no longer somthing to be different, its more the norm...
 
nah its not over, just not as 'DIY' as it once was, much easier for the lame handed n00b instead of hacking his case up with a Dremel!

but as for OC'ing.... itll never die.... whatever you can do, well make it run faster ;)
