is it spyware?

I have 2 items in my add\remove & have no idea how they got there. Was
wondering if these are safe to delete. One is NewDotNet & the other is
MyWebSearch. There is also a Microsoft.NET Framework that was not there
before. I did run AdAware & it didn't pick anything up. Can anyone please
tell me about these. Thanks in advance

It sounds like adware left on your machine by either a program download
installation or something similar.

The best program I have found to deal with that is Spybot - beats adaware
hands down. I have both and this one picks up stuff that adaware lets sail
through. Have a look at it at http://security.kolla.de and see what you
think but I would definitely recommend it. (I don't work for them by the
way!).

Also, if you do have stuff like that on your machine that is part of a
program you want to keep, try Zone Alarm. That allows you to individually
configure the access rights to the internet of every program on your PC so
you can block the undesirable elements whilst still using the programs that
installed them. (www.zonelabs.com)

Yes, both programs are spyware usually installed with
Kazaa or Imesh. You can try to remove them using your
add/remove uninstaller. I would suggest downloading a
good adware/spyware remover to finish the job (Adaware
which is available from download.com is excellent).

Either/both of the following programs will get rid of any spyware:

Spybot - you will be re-directed - http://security.kolla.de

..NET Framework is needed for some programs to run - Drive Image 7.0 is one example. I would advise you to leave .NET Framework as is.

One of your 'unknowns' is spyware. NewDotNet is the one.
It can be removed using the add\remove prog. See this

The other two look safe. I can find no virus/spyware
details on them. If you use Google key the names in and

Thanks to ALL who responded. I uninstalled "NewDotSearch from my Add\Remove
but "MyNetSearch" is not there. Does anyone know if I can just take that
folder full from Explorer & sent it to the recycle bin? There is some dll
files in there. I am also using AdAware v.4.55 so should I install the newer
version.? I am running XP Pro.

You guys are all great & I thank you again.

Always use the latest version of AdAware and check for updated Reference
Files often. It's possible that after you update AdAware, it will remove
that other program.

Spyware puts hooks in the registry which need to be removed.
Yes, AdAware 6.181 is current and be sure to get the on-line
updates, every week or so they update those.

SpyBot Search ands Destroy is also very good, I run both.

NewDotNet is Adware/spyware, and AdAware should remove it *provided* you
have a recent version. If you got yours before March at earliest, get a
new one. I am not sure about MyWebSerarch, but it probably brings Ads
along while reporting back. The best additional tool for searching is
reckoned to be Google Toolbar

..NET Framework is a Microsoft extension that came as a Windows Update a
month or two back

had 384 bad files.


She says her computer runs noticeably faster now.
