Is it possible to setup Windows XP without networking, etc.?

I want to set up a second Windows XP partition that's totally
barebones, containing the OS, a word processor and that's about all.

I don't want the OS to be able to connect to the other PCs on the
network or be able to go onto the the internet. For the most part, I
don't even want the networking card and other peripherals *detected*,
much less installed.

Basically, I want this partition to be as minimal and isolated and
standalone as MS-DOS. And yeah, I thought about installing MS-DOS
instead, but I do want to install a modern Word Processor.

Is it possible to install Windows XP Pro in such a severely limited way?

You could install it and then disable (in computer management) all of the
items that you do not want to work like the network card. and of course as
long as you do not connect the new install to the netwrok then it will be
unable to talk to them anyway.
regards,
Mark.

Depending on the BIOS settings on the PC, might it not be easier to turn off
the devices you don't want in here, so Windows doesn't even know they exist,
and then password protect the BIOS to stop people turning them back on.

Because of course for such a locked down machine, you'll need to password
protect the BIOS, you might as well turn off the unwanted hardware while
you're there if it allows it.
