Is it possible to get rid of Times New Roman without penalty?

I never ever want to see Times New Roman again. I don't want it in my
notes, my emails, my documents, my websites - anywhere.

But, since it is a default font, I am not sure just deleting it is a
good idea. Is it? Can I replace it with something else - like trick
the software by duplicating Arial or Verdana and calling it Times New
Roman?

Is something stopping you from going into display properties and setting
some other font as the default font?

In every single instance that I can find to set a font in display,
Arial is the font that is set. In every piece of software where font
setting is a possibility, I have selected fonts other than Times New
Roman.

BUT, there are places where font setting is not possible and the
default is chosen (not by me) and that default is Times New Roman.
And I want it out of there.

Susan,

Use Screen property's
- the 4th tab (in dutch 'vormgeving' must be something as 'look')
- click on the advanced tab
- there you can change fot of menu, tooltips, messages etc...

Watch out ! not all fonts have all symbols that can be needed to bring over
the message...

Thank you Jean Paul, I have done that. I have assigned a sans-serif
font to every single display option where font choice is possible.

BUT, I would still like to get rid of Times New Roman - off my
computer so that NO application of any kind will ever pick it for use.

It's not the display that is the problem, it's the applications that
use the 'default' font - the 'default on Windows XP is Times New Roman
and I don't want to see it.

Maybe I could get another copy of Verdana or Arial or and just rename
it Times New Roman? Would that work?

Make a folder and move the font to it. If you have no problems after a
while then delete it.

What a brilliantly simple idea! Done! Thanks!!
