Is it possible to boot xp just to a commanf prompt?

Hello

Can I just boot xp to a command prompt? If so would networking (or could
it?) still be available? Eg if I just want to use an xp box as a file
server?

No! You can boot to a command prompt via the Recovery Console but you are
very limited in what you can do. The operating system isn't even running at
that point.

Yes you can, go to msconfig, then Boot.ini and then check /NOGUIBOOT

Only in safe mode with a switch /NOGUIBOOT.

But what you want to do, I don't think it is possible.

I failed to mention this, if you do this will happen:

/noguiboot
This switch disables the bitmap that displays the progress bar for
Windows startup. (The progress bar appears just before the logon
prompt.)

but if you have /noguiboot and /safeboot then you will boot into
safemode with a command prompt.
