Is it possible to add a signature to a web page?

Is it possible to add a signature to a web page? I am not talking about a
digital signature, but one that looks like your own signature!

You could scan it into an image editing program, resize, optimize and save
as a .gif.
You could also make it with something like a Wacom tablet, but why would you
want to show it.

So someone could copy it and paste it on check of course.

Rob,
I wondered what you meant for a little while. Why would someone want to
check a signature? Check it for what ?

Then I realised you meant cheque (English/Australian spelling)
