Is Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) possible using the wireless card?

Hello everyone,

I am wondering if it is possible to share one single computer's
internet connection using the wireless card?

Here is the setup:
Laptop-1 (WinXP) connects to a DSL modem using the wired eithernet
card. That card has a fixed IP address otherwise it would not be able
to connect to the DSL modem.
That same laptop has one additional wireless network card available
that is not in use at the moment.

Can I setup Laptop-1 so that the internet connection coming in/out of
the wired eithernet card will be shared over the wireless card so that
Laptop-2 (WinXP) can connect to Laptop-1 using the wireless card as
well?

If the answer is yes, please send me some tips of how to do that since
I have been playing around with that scenario for some time.

Thank you,
Wolfgang

YES, only if u can configure laptop#1 NIC for AP mode (Access Point).
Only some NIC allow u to do this. If no, then perhaps it's cheaper to
purchase a stand-along AP.

Thank you very much for your quick response! In order to see if that is
an option can you please tell me, what NIC you are talking about? The
wired NIC that the DSL connection is comming in on, or the wireless
NIC, that is available? I assume you are talking about the wireless
NIC.
How can I configure that NIC as an AP? Is that through the IP config
dialog, or somewhere else? If you could give me some pointers in the
right direction, I'd very much appreciate that! Thank you so much in
advance for your help on this! (Using some bridging between the two
would not help, right?)

I believe I know what you are talking about. While the wired NIC has a
group of "Internet Connection Sharing" settings on the "Advanced"
"Local Area Connection Properties" dialog, the "Wireless Network
Connection Properties" dialog offers the group "Windows Firewall" only,
and no "Internet Connection Sharing".
So I assume without a separate wireless AP device, I am screwed.

I spoke too soon. Maybe it's doable.

Configure gateway PC NIC for adhoc mode (adhoc mode are only
associated with WiFi so u needn't be confused). Then just follow
setting up ICS a per Windows' help file. Surprisingly, that help file
is quite good. See what happends.
