is ftp slow in XPSP2?

It certainly seems that way. I heard there's a choke that can be

I have not witnessed this issue nor heard about any "choke".
I also do not use the built in FTP for much anymore - with many free and
more secure/better alternatives out there.

I use the same program I used with W95, WS_FTP95. Works great.

use third party tools for ftp download and upload.
you will be able to breathe easily with the graphic interface, ablility to
save the configuration information plus use a explorer style interface for
moving files between your desktop and the server.
