Hi,

I met when some 32-bit applications doesn't want to work on 64-bit OS and
regardles of they used drivers or not. Sometimes it was very simple apps.

64-bit Windows has own updates and patches from 32-bit OS will not
compatible with it.

Assume I install WinXP 64 on my 64 bit hardware system.

Can I really install all 32 bit software (including 32 bit drivers)
on my 64 bit OS ?

What about MS patches for WinXP? Can I apply "normal" patches (which are intended
for 32 bit WinXP) as well on 64 bit WinXP?

No, drivers must be 64 bit. 32 bit application software should run without
problems, although there are bound to be some programs that won't. Older, 16
bit apps may be more of a problem.

Like drivers, patches for the OS must be 64 bit versions

no way to COMPLETELY GUARANTEE that your existing software will work on 64 bit system.
you need to check with each vendor to see if they support 64 bit system. at the least it would just require an update.
MS updates when needed are different for 32 bit and 64 bit systems.

64-bit WinXP will run 32-bit applications, but you will need 64-bit
drivers.

I seriously doubt it.

Try asking in the XP 64bit group.

Most 32 bit software will work, however anything that uses 32 bit
drivers will fail, as will any 16 bit software. Note that some 32
bit programs use 16 bit installers.

No. XP64 has its own set of patches.

Can we run MS Virtual PC (a 32 bit emulator) under XP64?

Some software, such as antivirus and antispyware programs, may not be
compatible with 64 bit Windows. Most if not all general applicartion
programs (word processing, database, graphics, etc.) should be okay.

Most 32-bit applications will work just fine, although those that still
have 16-bit installers won't even install, and because many anti-virus
applications use the equivalent of drivers, you may need to find another
AV solution. All hardware components *must* have 64-bit drivers.

No! There are separate patches for WinXPx64, which is even at a
different service pack level.
