Is 11-12 secs for loading an application considered too long ?

Hi Lior,

You can speed up the loading of applications, if you choose to, without
adding additional Ram, by disabling your Anti-Virus Background Scanning as
well as any Background Spyware Programs. If you don't want to disable these
programs, then you need to add additional memory. I believe you system can
use it, especially with a Pentium 4 1.5GHz Processor.

loading JCreator Pro 3.50 (downloaded 30-days trial from www.jcreator.com)
consumes about 12 secs since launching the application (after installing
it)
till the splash screen (opening screen of JCreator) appears . 11-12 secs
looks
too long . What do you think ,

I've never used that program, but 12 seconds doesn't seem too long for
a program. I've got one that takes 20 seconds to fully load. If the
program seems to run ok, don't worry about those few seconds.

It could be something to do with the system clock. It is one day (WHOLE
24 hours) ahead of all intelligent people on this planet! Have you
tried synching it to internet time?

Hi ,

I use Pentium 4 1.5GHz , WinXP with SP2 , 512MB RAM DDR400 (My
motherboard , Via technologies , supports max. of 266MHz) .

expanding the physical RAM , ie. without buying additional RAM) to
improve the "running time" (ie. the loading time) of JCreator ?

JCreator is a Java-editing software (it can also edit HTML files ,
too) .

If it's written in java or loads java libraries on startup then it doesn't
seem too long to me at all. Quite a lot of Java based desktop apps can
seem quite sluggish at startup.

I'm curious: Is it a problem or are you just wondering if something is up?

I'm always surprised at "professionals" who STILL have to be asked:
"Have you checked (event viewer / syslog)".

I must say that this is one of the long , if not the longest time for an
application to be loaded on my system .

Other applications are being loaded much faster , even if the AntiVirus is
active.

(Only the JCreator takes more than 10 secs to load ...)

Thanks in advance ,
Lior .

I have to say , that sometimes it takes about 45 secs (!) to load the
same JCreator application , when no other applications are active (no
browsers are active , etc.)

I think this is down to the nature of Java then.

Hi Lior,

How many version of Java are installed in your computer? Look in Add or
Remove Programs?
The latest version is jre-1_5_0_08-windows-i586-p-s. While you can have more
than one version installed, it might slow down loading applications that
depend on Java Script. Just my opinion.

Same loading time when disabling AntiVirus ...

Thanks in advance ,
Lior .

I wanted to know if it's urgent (necessary) to upgrade to 1GB RAM (from
512MB) just because it takes too long to load JCreator ...

Lior .

Hi Lior,

True, but quoting you:
Try uninstalling both versions of Java that are currently installed and
download and install the newest version and see if it makes any difference.
And at least you will have the latest version of Java installed, which is
what I am getting at. Also use a Windows Registry Cleaner to clean the
Windows Registry out. It speeds loading up of programs.

http://www.tune-up.com/ TuneUp Utilities 2006 is available as a Fully
functional 30-day Trial Program.

I have JDK v1.4.2 installed , and Java Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6 .

I am not talking about JavaScript ... only about loading JCreator
application
itself .

Thanks in advance ,
Lior .

Well , JCreator 3.50 isn't written in Java - it's written in C++ ...

Thanks in advance ,
Lior .
