IrfanView - video window position?

T

I have AVI files associated with IrfanView, as this opens faster than
alternatives like WMP, PowerDVD, NeroShowTime, etc.

But the playing video always opens partially off the screen, at bottom
right, so that I have to quickly drag it or make it full screen. Can
anyone tell me how to get it to display centrally, or wherever I last
placed it please?

Properties > Misc 2 > Remember the last window size/position.
Properties > Misc 2 > Centre window when loading new image.

Thanks David, but I have those checked and yet the movie does not come
centered, nor at same size as when I closed it. Are you sure those are
not just for still images?

Size *seems* to be determined by the setting made in the video window
by clicking the Options button. But I haven't found a way of getting
it centered...

I've just tried it again and 'Properties > Misc 2 > Remember the last
window size/position' works for video (.avi)
with 'Properties > Misc 2 > Centre window when loading new image' the
window opens up top left (but wholly on the screen)

I bet I know why we're getting different results. Under
Options|Properties|Video/Sound, which of these options do you have
checked?
- Use external player (IV_Player PlugIn required)
- Use internal video/sound player

I'm using the external, as some of my files don't play in the internal
player. On switching to internal (and playing an AVI that does play).
I found that the sizing and positioning works correctly.

Yes I'm using internal video/sound player.

I'll try external and see what happens.

With external I can see what your problem is - I cannot get it
centred. Best I could do is leave both options unticked. IV then opens
top left of screen and the video window to the right of it.

Thanks for following up David. Yes, that's about the best compromise.
You can then d-click the video window title bar to get it maximised,
or drag it.

BTW, what is the purpose of the blank IV window that appears too when
playing a video. It doesn't seem to offer any obvious functionality?
Nor can I find a way to have it come up minimised (which I thought
might allow the video window more space).

I'll post again if I hear back from Irfan.
