Hi

I need to change the Idiotview icon, but am having problems with it.
Easy to change icons of associated files, and of shortcut to Idiotview,
but cant change the icon of the prog itself, which shows up on taskbar
in use.

Any pointers would be welcomed.

look in the mirror to find the idiotview

Two approaches that might help:
1. In Irfanview, go to Options > Properties > Extensions > Miscellaneous
2. In Windows Explorer go to Tools > Folder Options > File Types > Find the
extensions associated with Irfanview > Advanced > Change Icon (you need to
repeat this for each associated extension).

Thanks. I tried those, the irfanview misc one only controls the icon
associated with associated file types, not what shows on irfanview
itself.

2. will only change the same as above afaics

I also made a shortcut to irfan, which had the same red icon, and used
properties to find the icon address, with the plan of replacing it. But
irfan seems to have done something with win that it wont display the
address, and will only work with the icons supplied with irfan. There
are no separate icons in the irfanview folder, just icons.dll, and I
failed to see how to edit it successfully.

The short version is I dont see a way to fix this issue. Its a shame
because irfan is clearly a very handy piece of software, but the icon
makes recommending it in any way to clients inappropriate.

Thanks for your help.

icons.dll is for file associated icons display.

i_view32 is a aspacked executable the resources are not easily altered.

"SplatCat" is offensive?

If commercial usage, as defined by Irfan, is desired then contacting
him for licensing may yeild a executable with a different main icon.

I had another look at it and I must reluctantly agree with you that it is
not possible to change the program icon by the usual route, although it is
possible to change
the shortcut icon. The program icon seems to be embedded in the exe file.
You might try extracting/replacing it with Resource Hacker,
http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/ , but this might contravene the EULA.
Out of idle curiosity, why do you consider the present icon inappropriate?

Regards

EULA issues, yes. Irfan has clearly gone to some effort to make those
icons unchangeable, so I doubt accerptance of change would be
forthcoming. Re your question, if its not clear I wouldnt really know
where to begin. Would you consider a severe road accident picture of a
member of your family on there appropriate for all end users?

thanks, NT

No, but thousands of people have downloaded the Irfanview program and have
not been offended. I think it depends on "the eye of the beholder". Sorry
that there does not seem to be a solution to your problem.
