How can I eradicate MSN Messenger and Hotmail.

Microsoft's Gestapo Nazi attitude that I *MUST* upgrade now to continue, is just not on.

Microsoft will now not allow you to send e-mail from Outlook Express unless you log in on the web.
Well, you guessed it, I can do without Hotmail as well. There are now plenty of other POP3 free e-mail providers.
I did quite like Hotmail and found it useful over all these years and of course comfortable using it having used it for so long.
Won't take me long to get used to another mail service for use on the road.

Microsoft, I can do more and more without you everyday.
Microsoft, you are like all large bullying overbearing companies, you really know how to piss customers right off.

Thanks guys

Feel better?

Feel better? Of course, you understand that you aren't talking to
Microsoft here. This is a public newsgroup hosted on MS servers and all
the posters are volunteers. Occasionally MS employees will post, but it
is on their own time and not as official company representatives.

You already know the answer to your question. Uninstall MSN Messenger
and don't use Hotmail.

What has MSN Messenger to do with all of this?

I would point out that your anger / aggravation / consternation appears to
be caused by virtue of your inability to use Hotmail with Outlook Express
without paying Microsoft.

You're right, you do have multiple options for *FREE* email, but I wonder
how many of them are POP3 and will allow you to use Outlook? By disabling
IMAP access to Hotmail without a paid account, MSFT isn't doing anything
most other free email providers don't already do.

Is now a good time to point out that many of these free email providers gain
revenue by placing advertising on their web pages? Pages that you view when
you check your email. If you are using a reader for your email such as
Outlook, you aren't seeing the advertising, so how do they make money?

Like it or not, it's capitalism. If you don't like it, create your own free
email for public use and see how long you can sustain it without charging
money for SOMETHING. (Hint - there was already an experiment with this type
of "fair" distribution. It was called the USSR and you may notice that they
aren't on any globes anymore.)

And now MY rant is complete.

Interesting. However ...

... I have a friend who is using a free email service which also provides
POP3 account. Actually, he has 3 separate such accounts and uses all of
them on Thunderbird (http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/) quite
nicely. So, from my friends experience, no, you do not need Outlook and
yes, you can have free POP3 email accounts. Me? I use Yahoo and haven't
had any real reason to look for anything else.

Sam.

You're right about the U.S.S.R. They should have gotten Japanese and Chinese
central bankers to buy their unpayable debt (like they do for U.S) and they
still might be around.
