IR Devices

I know this is a pretty elementry question, but is there any special way to
connect IR devices, I was trying to get a Nokia to talk to a laptop with a
IR port, but I couldn't see how to turn the IR on the laptop on.

IR ports must be enabled in the laptop's BIOS before XP can be able to use
it. Then, the IR port shown be listed in Device Manager.
