Ipsec vpn connectivity

I have a vpn established l2tp/ipsec, 1 xp workstaion keeps geeting the
error 768 - The connection attempt failed because of failure to encrypt data


- No NAt traversal
-installed Update for Windows XP (KB907865)
-rebuilt ipsec http://www.howtonetworking.com/VPN/rebuildipsec.htm
-ipsec is running

any ideas would be greatly appreciated

You should check the VPN server if Setup encryption on the VPN server.

The sever is configured with

ipSec

L2tp/Ipsec

the client is win2k pro sp4.....

The remote vpn will work with pptp no problems but not with the encription

would you know how to add the shared key on the win2k client without a vpn
client?

in this case, you may try to change Type of VPN server to L2TP instead of Automatic. To do this, go to the VPN properties>Networking. Please post back with the result.
