IPsec service wont start, Error 1747

Guest

Hi, I''m using WIndows XP pro SP2 Build 2600 05031-1519
I've got this weird problem with IPsec service. it wont start at all giving
me "error 1747: The Authentication service is unknown"

My system can only connect to the net by manual setting, can no longer
optain IP via DHCP,
It keeps happening even after I format & on both my pc's after I connect to
the net!
First thing I did install a firewall offline then connect & did all
neccessery updates & still get this!

any clue on how to fix it? is this a virus spreading? I've got PC cillin
reporting nothing at all!

There is now an IPsec newsgroup at microsoft.public.windows.networking.ipsec
that should be a better place to post.
When did this start happening? After installing/upgrading something? You
mention a firewall, was everyhting working prior to firewall being
installed?

What updates are you installing? Is there by chance a NATT one getting
installed?
Let see if the IPsec group works better.

Do you need/use IPsec?
As a temporary workaround you could try disabling the IPsec service and
rebooting.
Go to services.msc locate IPsec Services and set startup type to disabled.

If one of the updates has broken something then it might be a time consuming
job to identify the one causing this
I think error 1747 is kinda generic and can be covered by a multitude of
reasons unfortunately.
What do the eventvwr logs tell you?
Perhaps the ipsec group can shed some light

Now this is weird!, I formated & did a clean install on three machines. one
with win2k & the rest XP pro! I did not install any thing, went & checked the
IPsec after installing drivers, it gave me the same error!
only one thing incomon in all the machines is that all linked to the linksys
router!

could it be the router currepting it?
I reset the router to default & reformated & now its working fine on one
machine!!

I formated cause repair does not fix it nor reinstalling nor overwriting
lsass.exe!!

What was the state of IPsec before installing the drivers? [What are these
drivers?]
I dont see how the linksys router on its own can be causing this unless you
are installing linksys drivers on the boxes, possibly then the driver
sinstallation might be the cause?

my hardware drivers, I was explaining what I did. which was nothing but
install neccessery stuff after format.

I think it has somthing to do with connecting to the net, because two noone
related comps had it after format & only installing hardware drivers then
updated. as I said on a windows Xp & win2k!
