IPSEC Driver Fails to Install

I'm running W2k Professional. The Event Log contains the
following error messages:

Source Name: Service Control Manager
The IPSEC driver service failed to install due to the
following error: Insufficient system resources exist to
complete the requested service.

Source Name: IPSEC
Unable to allocate required resources. Initialization
failed.

I've enabled and disabled the IPSEC Policy Agent service
but continue to receive these errors each time the pc
boots up. Any suggestions on potential fixes?

Do you know when this started occuring? After a 3rd party software
"firewall" installation perhaps or anyhthing of that nature?

I only noticed this after my network administrator
contacted me about some shares that were visible through
the network, and asked me to shut them down. The log
showed these error messages going back as far as the log
history holds.

Since leaving the original message, I've deleted and re-
installed the network adapter and driver, but the error
messages continue. Not sure if these error messages are a
sign of a serious security issue.

I've done a full virus scan (with up-to-date definitions)
but found no problems.

So its possible that this has been showing up for a while then but with no
likely cause and was not known about.
Do you know the installation history of the box at all?
What service pack level are you running?

I 'm assuming IPSec is not a requirement for your environment? This is not a
security concern if IPSec is of no relevance in your environment. Of course
if you are using IPSec then this failure would mean that traffic would not
be getting secured [subject to the IPSec policies in force] which would be a
concern.
The actions you took with the adapters will have no affect on the IPSec
service, something else will have caused the IPSec related error message,
e.g. possibly a third party firewall application.
