hey.

recently my ipod just stopped being detected by windows and itunes. Windows
read it as a usb mass storage device and shows up in device mananger under
usb and storage devices, however i cant acces it at all. It doesnt not show up
in my computer as a removable drive, and is not dtected by itunes. It does
charge however. Microsoft is unwilling to help becuase my operating system
came with my computer, and apple tried fruitlessly to help me out,i was on the
phone with apple 4 hours before they ran out of troubleshooting techniques. I
was hoping someone in here could help me,as microsoft is acting very cold
toward a loyal customer who doesnt have 35 dollars to have them tell me to
check or uncheck a box. Im sixteen and cant seem to get help from anyone.

Please help!

I assume this means you have OEM Windows, which means whoever you bought
your computer from is responsible for the support. However in the long run,
your issue is really with Apple as its their product that isn't working. So
you might see if there is an IPod support group about. The best info you'll
get here is general troubleshooting for Windows.

You can try running MSCONFIG (at Start > Run) and see if the ipod
detector service is running. Every installation of Quicktime or Itunes
nowadays seems to install this service regardlessof whether or not you
have an iPod. (Just Apple's contribution to adding needless load to
Windows).

The OEM who sold you the computer with Windows preinstalled has the
support responsibility, not Microsoft. Unfortunately they usually shirk
their contractual obligations.

Ah, see that is important to know. If nothing USB is working, then it may be
windows or your hardware. Right-click My Computer and choose Properties. Go
to the Hardware tab and choose the Device Manager button. Down at the bottom
of the list should be USB controllers. It should show USB root and a
controller. Do any of the items have a red X or an exclamation mark on them?
