IP range in the file hosts

In the file hosts, can I use IP address, instead of domain names,
to exclude sites to visit? Something like

127.0.0.1 192.168.1.1

What if I want to exclude a range of IP address? Do I have to
enter them one by one?

What if I want to exclude a domain, e.g. any site related to
yahoo.com like login.yahoo.com, www.yahoo.com, etc? Does each of
them have to have its own entry or there is a way to use one entry
to exclude all sites ended with yahoo.com?

John,

The Hosts file can only be used to redirect exact host names - no ranges or
wildcards.

If you want to be more efficient, you need a DNS proxy like DNSKong and / or
Proxomitron:
