Hi,

what is the best way to make a win2000 server log the IP
address on the event viewer, i enabled the security
auditing on the server but i can olnly see the compute
name.
i know that this option is avilable in windows 2003
server. but i dont want to upgrade it is a lot of work.

You would need to install a third party program. Some personal firewalls such as
Sygate have excellent logging capabilities that can be used even if you do not want
to use the firewall capability. Then you would have to match the security log to
firewall log by time. You could also try pinging a computer by name to try to get the
IP address, however that may only work on computers on the lan. --- Steve
