IP Conflict

This is probably easy for someone out there:

I'm running a host computer, HP Pavilian, Windows XP Media Center w/SP2,
with a Linksys wireless router.

I'm using a client computer, HP Pavilian Windows HP Media Center, with a
Linksys wireless adapter.

A few minutes after client connection, the client signal drops and the host
shows an IP conflict.

Why? I'm running 5 other computers on the wireless network (those computers
are running Windows XP Home Edition) that run flawlessly.

Any help would be awesome.

Barry,

What is the function of the host computer - is it by any chance running ICS to
provide service to the client?

How does everything connect to each other? Make and model of network equipment
might be useful.

Please provide ipconfig information for the client, the host, and one other
computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open Notepad, make sure that Format - Word Wrap is NOT checked!, Open
c:\ipconfig.txt, copy and paste entire contents into your next post. Identify
operating system (by name, version, and SP level) with each ipconfig listing.

Thanks Chuck.

I will get this information and get back to you. And yes, the host is
providing ICS to all computers. Everything is wireless.
Thanks again.

It could be the problem described when you check the very first
checkbox in http://www.michna.com/kb/wxnet.htm .

Group, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe XP MCE is limited to 5
simultaneous connections when not on a domain (characteristics of XP Home),
where joined to a domain, it becomes 10 (characteristics of XP Pro).

That's interesting. I will check this out. I ended wiping the computer
clean and the problem didn't go away until I upgraded to SP 2. The problem
seems to have temporarily gone away, but then, I think less than five
computers have been on lately in the house.

Thanks again,
Barry
