IP conflict with another system? Help please

I just got this message and I don't know why - it came out as a little
windows balloon in the bottom right hand corner.

"System Error : there is an IP conflict with another system"

Something to that affect, probably not exactly as I was writing it
down in a hurry.

I have two computer attached to this router, but I am not sure what
this error means. Any ideas? Is it a virus or something else maybe
hijacking my ip address?

Thanks

Check to make sure that the computers don't have the same name. It could
also be your router. I had a Conceptronic router that was doing that and
I cured it by changing to an Edimax router. First it was giving me that
message and then the router crapped out and couldn't connect well,
continually cutting off from the Net.

It means exactly what it says: both of your computers are trying to use
the same IP address. simply reconfigure one of them.

It means that the IP address the machine is attempting to use is already in use by
the other machine. Make sure the router is configured for dhcp and the machines are
configured to obtain an IP automatically. Check the dhcp IP range that's set in the
routers web based configuration and set it for 2-3 IP addresses over the number of
PCs connected to it.

You could try resetting the IP/DNS from a cmd prompt.
Click Start > Run, type in: cmd and press Enter or click Ok.
At the prompt type each command and press Enter after each. ** Note the ^ = a
space, do not type the ^ **

ipconfig ^ /all **Take note of the settings - Name, IP, DNS ,etc**
ipconfig ^ /release
ipconfig ^ /renew
ipconfig ^ /flushdns
ipconfig ^ /registerdns
ipconfig ^ /all **Take note of the settings, all should be the same as before
except for the IP**
ping ^ IP address or the UNC for the second PC
ping ^ google.com
exit

If you run into timeouts when using ping:
Shut down both PCs, then power down the router and then if applicable the modem.
Wait approximately 30 secs and power the devices back up in the order they were shut
down and each PC should be assigned their own IP.
Try to connect to the net.

Victory,

If you have more than one computer then you have given them statip IP's then 2 of them are
the same. Change the end address to one not in use

Also, you could have 2 the same named machines. If so, change that too

Lastly. Spoof your e-mail unless you like SPAM in your inbox. A few COMCAST spammers were
