Hi, Presumably there is a connection between a person's IP address and the
country in which he is operating - for instance those starting with
195.xxx.xxx.xxx seem to be originating in France and 81.xxx.xxx.xxx. seems
to be UK. Is there a mapping algorithm to connect IP and Origin?

Thanks Hugh

Unfortunately no. IP addresses are not doled out on a country basis but are
typically doled out in blocks which are then typically sold to
countries/companies. For example: an AOL user in the UK will show up as
having an IP address in the US because AOL owns the IP address block and
therefore the block appears as the US sicne that is where the company is
based. There is information that is sent with the IP address about the
country of origin though and there are services that can provide info about
this. Check out services such as http://ip-to-country.webhosting.info/

Hope this helps,

Use the search in the upper right hand corner.

Note you cant tell where it is, but what ISP the number is assigned to.

You can get reverse DNS records that sometimes say city off tracert or
traceroute.org.

thanks Mark...thought it seemed too good to be true
