IP address

Hi - if someone has copied all my sent emails onto a disc - by looking at
that email can they see what IP address it has come from ? If the email box
is an IMAP - can they also see what computer it was sent from despite the
email actually going out of the mail boax - whereveer it is in the world?

If you have saved it in the msg-format or within a pst-file, the message
header is maintained and could indeed reveal this.
Without any specifics, it is hard to call it though.

Any recipient of your e-mails can look at its headers. So send yourself
a test e-mail (to an off-domain account to ensure their mail server was
actually involved instead of internally routing an e-mail to dump it
into a mailbox which may not involve the mail server) and go look at its
headers. You'll see what the recipient sees.

Unfortunately, your question is somewhat vague. "Sent Mail", as in the
folder which holds email that you have sent? I don't have a copy of MS
Outlook, so I can only go by clients which I do have.

MS Outlook Express - Sent Items folder:

Headers show "From:" and "To:" email addresses, "Date:" sent, and mail agent
ID. No information about the local machine on which it resides (other than
inference of which OS based on mail agent details).

Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 - Sent folder:

Headers show "From:" and "To:" email addresses, "Date:" sent, "Message-ID:"
string, and mail agent ID. No information about the local machine on which
it resides (other than inference of which OS based on mail agent details).

Pegasus Mail 4.41 - Copies to self folder:

Headers show "From:" and "To:" email addresses, "Date:" sent, and "Identity"
(not quite the same as MSOE "Identities". No information about the local
machine on which it resides.

IOW, if this is the locally stored copy of the sent message, there is
nothing there in any of the clients I use. Since you are using Outlook, I
can only suggest that you check the headers of any messages in the "Sent
Items" folder.

However, if you have a folder holding email which was copied to the sender,
the headers will contain information added by whatever mail servers handled
the email between sending and receiving.
