It's probably a dumb question, but where do I find out,
using Microsoft xp, what my IP address is?

Use the Run command, type CMD and in the DOS box that
comes up, type IPCONFIG

Open XP's "Help and Support" and type: HEALTH , and hit enter.
Click on "Get information about your computer".
Then click on "View general system information about this computer".
Your IP Address will be shown under "General Computer Info".

most straight forward way is open a command prompt box, and run the
program 'ipconfig'.

Hi,

Easy !
Open a DOS prompt (Start- Run - "cmd")
Type "ipconfig"

Right click the Start button, select 'Open Command Window Here', type
'ipconfig' and hit Enter.

If you are working behind a Firewall, your true "Internet"
address is translated. Anytime your IP is 192.168.x.x then
you are using Network Address Translation. The router
gets the IP assigned by your ISP, it then translates all of
data to the Local Area Network PC's using the 192.168.
network addresses.

For a quick check for your "Visible" internet address, go

I have XP Home. Is this 'Open Command Window Here' option available only with XP Pro?
I can Start/Run/cmd Or: Windows key + R/cmd I do not see 'Open Command Window Here'
from right clicking the Start button.
Wes

It must be a "Pro thang."

Sorry but I am not familiar with XP Home. I guess it could be just a feature
of XP Pro.

There are several ways to open the command window, as already suggested
here. They all give the same result.
