My operating system is windows XP. I have DSL. I am
trying to network my laptop to my desktop with the D-Link
624 wireless router. We cannot get it to work at all. The
D-link help line said that I need an IP address in order
to set up the router, but we have not been able to obtain
one and I keep getting the same messages that I wrote
earlier. So they are telling me that it is a problem with
the operating system.

try asigning an ip adress in the same subnet the router will use. then you
can go inot the router setup and turn the dhcp on. also make sure your
using a striaght thru cable conected to one of the ports and not the wan
plugin on the router. you ip adress should be the same subnet of the routers
config adress. so if you enter the router setup by entering 192.168.0.1 in a
web browser then set the windows xp to 192.168.0.2 and then set up the
router..

also, check to make sure you didn't set up a bridge or somethign when
playing with it. if the nic is a member of the brigded-network it will
obtain setting somewere else. if it is, just right click and select remove
from bridge and then go from there.
