Hi
I am getting an inorrect IP address. Until last night my PC was running fine
automatically getting an IP address.
It should be 192.168.0.5x, but instead I'm getting 169.254.41.xx. I have
tried restarting my PC, and also restarting the router. The network
connections tab says that the network is connected. Also when I tried to ping
the router instead of saying 'pinging 192.168.0.1' it says 'pinging ºÿ'.
There are 4 other PCs connected to this network, and they are all running
fine, and the network has been running for over a year now on these settings
without problems.
I am using windows XP home edition, all the latest updates installed. The
router is set up as a DHCP server, with reserved addresses set up for the
main devices accessing the network.
Please help, as this is somewhat frustrating ;)
Phil

Let's also do a stack reset.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Note: Type only the text in bold for the
following commands.

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset
reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset
catalog

Reboot the machine.

This worked for me
hopefully it will also help any others
